Why Rummage?
We specialize in upcycling discarded clothing into colorful, long lasting bags and accessories. Our fabrics of choice mostly consist of second-hand clothing, discarded off-cuts and lower grade materials from different fast fashion factories in Kenya that can withstand the daily wear and tear that can be inflicted upon a bag.
The clothes are all sourced from the largest open air second-hand market in Kenya, called Gikomba. A market that receives in excess of 100,000 tonnes every year from developed countries. (landfills)
We make weekly trips into the market to hand pick unique items that are then turned into one of a kind bags.
All the production is done at our studio in the heart of Nairobi.
How it works
Sourcing. The traders notify us when they have accumulated stock of items they haven’t been able to sell over time. We head to the market and purchase them. (Photo of moha sourcing for clothes)
Sorting happens back at the workshop. Determining what clothes will be used for different products.
Cleaning and washing of the materials before being cut up for start of production. Assembly and stitching
Finished Product
The final products are these lovelies!
